2014 President Terry Meriden, MD, FACP, FACN, FACE, FAAMA

Terry Meriden 2013I’m delighted to welcome you to NAAMA!

As you explore the pages of this website, you will learn that NAAMA is a unique place…the place for you to expand your professional network; stay connected with your Arab heritage; and find many opportunities to enhance your medical knowledge through CME (continuing medical education) events and lend a hand around the world through our humanitarian efforts.

That’s the value proposition NAAMA offers.

Who do you want to meet to help your career? Want to maintain your cultural connections? Continuing medical education combined with fun and new contacts for you and your whole family? Put your money where your heart is? NAAMA can help.

NAAMA is the largest and first Arab American professional medical organization. Founded in 1975, you’re joining us in our 39th year. That’s 39 years of providing professional contacts to enhance your medical practice…39 years of providing continuing medical education…39 years of helping those less fortunate with medical services and medical supplies here at home and in our motherlands.

For example, NAAMA has financially supported and provided volunteers for medical missions to Jordan and Lebanon to treat the thousands of Syrian refugees. Four missions in 2013 and two already planned for 2014. In keeping with our humanitarian mission, we are deeply committed to further action to alleviate the suffering brought about by the continuing violence in Syria. Medical and dental professionals, nurses, social workers and all people who want to lend a needed hand are welcome to join us. In the last four years, NAAMA has donated over half a million dollars for a variety of medical services and medical equipment in Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan and Egypt. We’ve responded to the mental and general health needs of hundreds of Iraqi refugees to the U.S. and have contributed to alleviate the suffering following Superstorm Sandy.

Please contact our Executive Director Renée Ahee at 248-646-3661 or rahee@naama.com for more information, to volunteer or to donate.

We’re also planning NAAMA’s 28th International Medical Convention in London, England, from June 16 through June 16, with a pre-conference tour to Edinburgh, Scotland, from June 13 through June 16, and a post-conference tour to Paris, France, from June 21 through June 24. NAAMA’s 36th National Medical Convention will be held in San Diego, California, from August 29 through September 1, a great place to celebrate Labor Day. To close the year with great science and great fun, we’ll be in Rio de Janeiro for NAAMA’s International Medical Symposium the week between Christmas and New Year. We invite you to be with us.

These elements of our mission – medical education and our humanitarian commitment – set NAAMA apart from other professional organizations. If you’re not a member, I invite you to become one. In addition to the CMEs through our conventions and the opportunity to give back, NAAMA provides you with professional contacts through networking at the national and local chapter level, and a means to carry on the beautiful Arab culture.

We can accomplish so much together!
